　　这个时代，乡村正不断被都市侵蚀。土地的变迁还在其次，更多的是心灵的侵蚀，越来越多的人在追求都市的繁华和喧嚣的同时，关于乡村天云的印象也越来越淡漠。 然而，当我们站在都市人影重叠的街头，当我们闭目聆听我们内心的音乐时，仍旧能清晰地听到一个人的声音，一个明亮、纯净、永远生长在乡村的意象之上的声音——那个人，就是John Denver，乡村民谣的守护者大约很多喜欢乡村音乐的朋友都记得这首歌，Leaving on a jet plane。1997年10月12日，john denver在加利弗尼亚海边，驾着他的私人飞机，触崖坠海，飘然而去，就象他在这首歌里唱的那样：
　　I'm leaving on a jet plane，I don't know when i'll be back again

　　john denver 于1943年12月31日出生在新墨西哥州罗斯维尔城。8岁时候，祖母给了他一把吉它，从此他开始学习音乐。1964年，大学毕业后，放弃了他的建筑学专业，来到洛杉矶，在城市民谣俱乐部中演唱。1965年，他加入了一个三重唱组合 Chud Mitchell Trig，直到1969年，denver录制了第一张唱片 Rhymes and Reasons，这张唱片里收录了那首有名的 Leaving on a jet plane。  

　　1971年，denver演唱了他的名曲Take me home ,country roads,1972年，创作和演唱了另一首名曲 Rocky mountain high 并且由此当上了BBC的“午夜特别节目” 的主持人。到1974年的时候denver已经是誉满美国了。这一年，他写了一首献给他妻子的非常深情感人的歌曲 Annie’s Song。1975年，denver创作和演唱的 Thank god I am a country boy 和 I`m sorry获得美国排行榜冠军。此后，他开了自己的唱片公司，发行了很多优秀的唱片，曾先后获得过21次金唱片奖和4次白金唱片奖。后来他自己又开始制作电影，参加慈善活动宣传人道主义和推行环保运动，使他成为美国流行文化的象征性人物。

　　1981年，denver 和一个很欣赏他的著名男高音歌唱家普拉希多.多明戈合作了一曲二重唱 Perhaps Love(中文常译为“爱或许是这样”) ，让他名声达到了颠峰。
John denver跟中国很有缘。
　　据说，尼克松总统访华，带来了john denver的音乐在人民大会堂让小平同志开眼界。1979年1月，小平同志访美，john denver在华盛顿肯尼迪文化中心为小平同志演唱了他最著名的曲目。
　　1981年，denver来到了上海，有感于外滩秀美旖妮的风光，创作了一首Shanghai`s breeze(上海的微风) 。忘了是九几年了，denver来到了北京，在首都体育馆献给了他的中国歌迷们一场精彩的演唱会。
　　再后来，直到死去……
