   正在凤凰高中念书的贝拉·斯旺给人的感觉总是有那么一点点与众不同，她似乎和其他同龄的少女不太一样，朴实，不爱被人所关注。妈妈再婚了，为了让妈妈过得更开心，贝拉只好搬去和父亲查理一起住。查理住在一个位于华盛顿周边，叫福尔克斯的常年阴雨的小城镇里，换环境对于贝拉来说影响并不大，一直显得对什么都有点漫不经心的她，觉得在哪里生活都不会给自己带来太大的改变。　　
   但是，当贝拉遇到一位浑身上下散发着神秘气息、有如希腊雕像般俊逸的美少年爱德华·卡伦之后，却发现自己突然生出了许多陌生的情感：他不同于她认识的任何男孩，虽然她自己也说不上来到底哪里有差别，也许是爱德华身上的高贵气质让她忍不住想多看他几眼吧。　　
   其实爱德华的真正身份是一名吸血鬼，不过他却出生在一个极其特殊的吸血鬼家族中，他们拒绝饮食人类的鲜血，而是捕食动物。是吸血鬼中的“素食主义者”，这好比是一个人光吃豆腐，给你力量但不能满足。自从贝拉出现后，她的血液就好比是爱德华的专用heroin。拥有着无与伦比的智慧和洞悉一切的能力，爱德华一眼就望进了贝拉的灵魂深处，他也被这个女孩的独特之处所深深地吸引，很快，两个人就彻底地沉沦在了爱情的海洋中，踏上了一段拨动心弦、却也违背了伦 理信仰的浪漫之旅……
